Borders to liquidate all of its stores

Borders announced it will liquidate all of its stores, including two in the area.

The Niles location, at 2102 Niles-Cortland Road SE, and the Hermitage, Pa., location, 3341 East State St., will join the 397 other Borders stores.

The company could begin the liquidation process as early as Friday.

The No. 2-ranked bookstore chain in the United States is expected to close its doors sometime this fall.

Borders employs about 10,700 workers nationwide.

Arby’s offers a deal: 64 cents on Saturday

In celebration of nearly 50 years of business, Arby’s, which was founded in Boardman in 1964, is offering 64-cent classic roast-beef sandwiches Saturday.

Customers need to buy a 22-ounce beverage and use a special coupon, which is available by “Liking” the Arby’s Facebook page.

Locations in the Mahoning Valley include but are not limited to 704 Youngstown-Warren Road in Niles, 5166 Youngstown-Poland Road in Boardman, and 13 Talsman Drive in Canfield.

There is a limit of one 64-cent sandwich per customer.

Funds for airport

New CASTLE, PA.

Pennsylvania Sen. Elder Vogel Jr., R-47th, announced Tuesday that the New Castle Municipal Airport will receive $153,947 to design a snow-removal equipment storage building,

This funding comes from state jet-fuel-tax dollars and a federal block grant administered by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Aviation. The state investment includes a local share.

Vogel said the airport contributes $1.5 million to the local economy.

FirstEnergy Corp. announces dividend

FirstEnergy Corp. announced Tuesday a quarterly dividend of 55 cents per share of outstanding common stock.

The dividend is payable Sept. 1 to shareholders of record as of Aug. 5.

Ohio places 2nd in solar manufacturing

TOLEDO

A solar-industry trade group says Ohio is the second-leading state in solar manufacturing.

Oregon is the only one that tops the Buckeye State.

The Solar Energy Industries Association says Ohio’s production rose by 50 percent during the first three months of this year, topping big solar-producing states such as California and New Jersey.

The Toledo area is becoming a hub for solar research and production. The Blade newspaper in Toledo reports that three solar panel makers in northwest Ohio are expecting to start or increase production over the next year.

The Solar Energy Industries Association says solar panel production nationwide was up 31 percent in the first quarter of 2011 compared with a year ago.
