3 Pa. casinos fined for permitting underage gambling

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has fined three casinos a total of $350,000, mostly for underage gambling violations.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the fines announced today included $160,000 against Mount Airy Casino Resort in Monroe County, for allowing seven 16- and 17-year olds to enter the table games floor and $40,000 against the Hollywood Casino in Dauphin County because a 20-year-old gambled for two hours.

The Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh was fined $150,000, including $80,000 for three underage gambling incidents. The casino was also fined for improperly connected slot machines.

The Rivers’ attorney suggested the control board should stiffen the penalties for underage gamblers rather than stiffen casino fines. Board chairman Greg Fajt says that’s being considered but says casinos should do more to train staff to identify and remove underage patrons.
