Youngstown police probe weekend crimes
YOUNGSTOWN
City police are investigating a list of crimes including aggravated robbery, assault and drug sales from the weekend.
According to reports, a 51-year-old Fifth Avenue man and his 52-year-old wife parked in their garage at 10:15 p.m. Friday and were walking toward their home when they were approached by two males dressed in all black and wearing bandanas over their faces.
Reports say the two men pointed guns at the couple and demanded jewelry and cash. The couple handed over two wallets, a handbag and some jewelry before a neighbor came outside and scared the thieves off.
The two men, reportedly, ran through some yards and jumped a fence firing one shot as they ran.
Police arrested Danielle Yeaton, 18, of Schenley Avenue after she allegedly cut her 18-year-old male roommate in the hand during a Friday evening dispute over a video game controller.
The couple had been arguing over the item when Yeaton picked up a knife and the victim dared her to cut him.
Reports say Yeaton told officers she was justified because the victim told her to do it.
Police are also investigating an early Sunday morning shooting on the city’s West Side. According to police reports, officers were sent to 305 S. Hazelwood Ave. at 4:35 a.m. for shots fired.
Officers arrived at the Hazelwood address and found a 19-year-old Hazelwood woman holding her side saying she had been shot.
Witnesses said the woman and several other people had been standing outside the house when a car pulled up and a man got out and pointed a shotgun at the victim and another woman.
Reports say the women ran for cover as the man fired five shots in their direction. The victim was hit in the side by buckshot and three cars were also damaged in the shooting.
The victim was treated by paramedics but refused to go the hospital.
Officers also arrested Albert Boykin, 19, of East Philadelphia Avenue during a VGRIP investigation of activity at a known drug house on West LaClede Avenue on Sunday evening. Boykin was arraigned Monday and given a $20,000 bond. He is charged with trafficking in drugs and tampering with evidence.
According to police reports, officers went to the house at 7:45 p.m. to investigate a car parked on the property containing a woman and two children. Officers eventually knocked on the door and heard people running around inside the house.
Reports say Boykin threw a cleaning bottle full of individual bags of crack cocaine from a second story window in the house. Police arrested Boykin and confiscated $919 he was carrying.
Another 19-year-old man was arrested by police at the scene but not charged.
