Man asks Dayton cop about suicide before killing himself

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A burglary suspect can be heard asking an officer about suicide minutes before police say he used his head to break a police cruiser window, climb out and jump to his death from an Ohio bridge.

Multiple media outlets report that 20-year-old Kylen English can be heard in Saturday recording by the cruiser’s video camera. Shortly before his escape, he asks whether the officer believes “you go to heaven if you kill yourself.”

The Montgomery County coroner’s initial autopsy finding was suicide. Chief Investigator Michael Fox says a final determination won’t be made until toxicology testing is complete.

Police told reporters at a news conference that English’s mother said he had a history of depression and self-harming behavior.
