Jamestown rallies to defeat Scrappers

JAMESTOWN, N.Y.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell out a first-place tie in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League with a 6-5 loss to the Jamestown Jammers on Monday night.

The Scrappers (17-14) led 3-0 and 5-2 before Jamestown (18-13) rallied, taking the lead with a three-run seventh.

Jake Lowery and Jordan Smith had two hits apiece for the Scrappers, who play host to State College in a two-game series starting tonight at Eastwood Field.

One of Lowery’s hits was his fifth home run of the season.

Alex Lavisky, Aaron Siliga and John Barr added doubles for Mahoning Valley.

Terrence Dayleg led the Jammers with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Rony Peralta added a double and single, and Rand Smith singled twice. Kentrell Dewitt also got on with a double.

Jamestown’s winning rally started with Ryan Goetz’s leadoff single. Smith followed with a walk, and Austin Barnes singled to load the bases.

Dayleg then delivered a two-run single to tie the score at 5, and the go-ahead run by Barnes was scored with Jobudan Morales grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.

The Scrappers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by John Barr and Lavisky’s double.

They made it 3-0 in the fourth when Lowery led off with his home run.

Jamestown scored twice in the bottom of the inning, but the Scrappers answered with a two-run fifth.

Jerrud Sabourin led off with a single and Siliga doubled. Sabourin scored on a ground out by Henry Dunn, and Todd Hankins’ sacrifice fly scored Siliga.

Jamestown scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-3.
