POLAND
The committee for the PAR Golf Outing, an annual fundraiser, is announcing that this year’s event will benefit two worthwhile causes: The Rich Center for Autism at Youngstown State University and the No Stone Unturned Foundation, both nonprofit organizations in the Mahoning Valley.
The two-day event will be at The Lake Club in Poland, where an evening of fine dining, an auction and entertainment for the corporate sponsors and golfers will begin at 5 p.m. on Aug. 26 and the golf outing on Aug. 29 will be followed by a casual dinner.
No Stone Unturned Foundation, dedicated to the support and research of health initiatives for children with disabilities, including cardio-facio-cutaneous syndrome, was established by YSU Head Football Coach Eric Wolford and his wife, Dr. Melinda Wolford, who are inspired by their son Stone, who has CFC syndrome.
The Rich Center for Autism was established in 1995 using the memorial funds donated after the deaths of Anthony and Paula (Rubino) Rich and their unborn child. They died in the USAir crash outside Pittsburgh International Airport in 1994.
Anthony and Paula’s nephew Christopher is challenged by autism. At the same time the grandson of Geri Kosar, Brian, had been diagnosed with autism. The Rich, Rubino and Kosar families joined together and decided that a learning and research center for autism would be a fitting memorial.
With the help of YSU President Dr. Cynthia Anderson, who was then president of student affairs, the Rich Center for Autism at YSU was born.
Since the inception of the PAR Golf Outing 15 years ago, the committee has raised more than $675,000, all of which benefits the Rich Center. The center is externally funded through grants and donations, so that the children are not charged tuition to attend.
