Hampton 12, Tri-T Palomino 2

BUTLER, PA.

Youngstown Tri-T Palomino stranded 11 runners, twice leaving the bases loaded, to fall in its opening round sectional game. Alec Neapolitan of Boardman came on in relief in the second and struck out two en route to finishing the game for Youngstown. Brian Beverly (East Liverpool) went 2 of 3 at the plate with a double, a run and a stolen base while Neapolitan doubled, drove in a run and stole a base. Garrett La Pina (East Liverpool) also doubled. Chandler McKinney hit a two-run homer for Hampton while Brett Stark tripled and John Koch went 2 of 3 with a double. David Steckle had the mound win for Hampton and La Pina got the loss.

Hickory Hornets 8-6, Mahoning Valley Knights 5-5

Dave Piersante and Joe Novak both had two hits for the Knights, while Rick DiMuzio hit a double. Cory Johnson and Tim Taylor led the Hornets with home runs, while Billy Rupp singled three times. Gary Revele added a pair of singles and two RBIs. In the second game, Johnson had a homer and triple and he drove in three runs. Taylor also hit a triple. Mike Floravit led the Knights with three hits, including a triple, and he drove in two runs.
