Dunn’s grand slam not enough as Scrappers fall to Jammers

A bad first inning proved too much to overcome as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell to the Jamestown Jammers 13-6 in a New York-Penn League game on Saturday.

The Jammers (17-12) scored seven runs in the bottom off the first inning to take control.

After the Scrappers scored five runs in the top of the fourth, Jamestown added a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the eighth to build an insurmountable lead.

Henry Dunn went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in the fourth inning for Mahoning Valley.

It was the first home run this season for Dunn, who was playing just his second game for the Scrappers.

The 50th-round pick from the 2010 draft spent the first 15 games this season with the Arizona League Indians.

Jake Lowery added two hits, including a double, and Jordan Smith had a double and Mahoning Valley’s other RBI.

Rob Nixon (1-3) started and gave up eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits with four walks and no strikeouts.

Jobduan Morales went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs for the Jammers.

The loss was the second straight for the Scrappers (16-13), who fell a game behind Jamestown in the Pinckney Division.

Mahoning Valley will play two more games in Jamestown before returning home for a two-game homestand against State College.
