Walk to End Alzheimer’s needs teams to participate

CANFIELD

The Greater East Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is recruiting teams for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s scheduled for Sept. 24 at Warren’s Courthouse Square and for Oct. 8 in Boardman Park.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, formerly called Memory Walk, is the largest event in the nation that raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease.

Registration for both events is at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m.

Each walker also will join in a ceremony to pay tribute to those affected by the disease.

Organizers urge participation from all sectors of the community, such as health care, business, civic and service groups, professional organizations, churches, and caregivers and family members of those with Alzheimer’s.

There is no cost to sign up, but the walk provides opportunities to raise funds for the disease, a growing epidemic in our region. In 2010 more than 33,000 teams participated in nearly 600 walks around the country and raised more than $42 million.

To start a team or sign up for one in the Boardman walk, visit alz.org/walk or contact Helen Paes, community development director, at 330-533-3300 or email Helen.Paes@alz.org.
