Air Quality Advisory issued for sensitive groups in the Mahoning Valley

Staff Report

YOUNGSTOWN

Today is an Air Quality Advisory Day in the Mahoning Valley, according to the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.

Light to moderate southerly winds will bring moisture and pollutants into

Northeastern Ohio, enhancing particle production. In addition, partly to mostlysunny skies with high temperatures in the upper 80s will increase ozone formation, the council said.

Therefore, AQI levels will be unhealthy for sensitive groups for ozone.

On Monday, partly to mostly sunny skies during the morning hours will enhance ozone formation in the Youngstown area, and west-southwesterly winds will bring additional ollutants into the region. However, scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon

hours will reduce ozone production and disperse some pollutants. These weather conditions will result in high-Moderate AQI levels.
