School festivities at Woodside Elementary are usually held in the school’s gym, but the Fun Day celebration June 2 was simply too big to be stuffed inside.
During Fun Day, activities were spread all over Woodside’s front lawn and playground space, so students could move freely and let all their energy out.
“Today is about celebrating all the successes we’ve had this year,” explained Woodside PTA president Lori Schafer. “Whether it’s been our third-graders and their Ohio Achievement Tests, or all of the tough class projects the students have completed throughout the year, we definitely have a lot to celebrate.”
Woodside students of every grade were welcomed to try out activities like cornhole, golf, parachute, relay races, target practice, and hula-hoop competitions. The students goofed off in a bouncy castle and inflatable caterpillar, and cooled off with sno-cones.
Principal Tim Kelty took his place in the dunk tank during the Fun Day festivities and Woodside kindergartners knocked him into the water six times.
Kelty was in good spirits about taking a few swims, but was serious about his love for Woodside after his first year as principal. “Throughout this year, I’ve talked a lot about being a Woodside family, but having our students all together really shows it. They work so hard, parents are incredibly supportive, and we’re lucky to be part of a great neighborhood. I’m proud to be a part of Woodside and experience my first of many Fun Days,” Kelty shared.
