Shepherd celebrates strawberry summer

During the height of strawberry season, Boardman Shepherd of the Valley celebrated summer’s favorite fruit with a June 16 Strawberry Social.
The staff of the Boardman facility were on hand to create strawberry treats for residents. Each dessert for guests included a slice of angel food cake topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.
“We’re having our strawberry social today because they’re in season right now and really at their most delicious,” explained activity director Joan Testa, who then took her own strawberry shortcake dessert.
In the facility’s activity room, residents gathered with friends and family to enjoy music and their summer treats.
Veronica Ontko visited her husband, Shepherd resident Andy Ontko, during the event for a fun afternoon out.
“We enjoyed our treats immensely,” Veronica Ontko shared. “At home, we usually share one dish. But these strawberry shortcakes were just to good to pass up – we each had our own.”
