The Gina Cimmento Dancers performed their annual recital June 25 at Canfield High School to an auditorium filled with family and friends. Approximately 125 dancers performed 25 numbers, including tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip hop and pointe, throughout the evening.

The 26th number was the finale with the entire cast participating and dancing to “Shout!”

The dancers, director and choreographer Gina Cimmento Reesey, assistant teacher Lori George and manager June Cimmento prepare for this night starting in September, attending dance classes every week.

Classroom demonstrators included Kerry Kingsley, Lauren Boucherle, Abby Smith, Jenna George, Abigayle George and Marie Messuri.

Dancers performed to such songs as “Telephone,” “Jeepers-Creepers,” “Can-Can,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Hey Mambo,” “Stairway to Heaven,” “Simply Irresistible,” “Walk the Dinosaur” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”

Three senior dancers choreographed and performed solos during the recital. Jenna George performed a lyrical solo to “Dig,” Lauren Boucherle performed a lyrical solo to “Flowers and Friends” and Kerry Kingsley performed a lyrical solo to “Fix You.”

During the high-energy finale, each dancer introduced themselves to the audience before being handed a flower. Family members were able to send messages of support and well wishes to their dancer in the recital’s program.

Reesey loves music and could dance before she could walk. She knew she wanted to be a dance teacher by age 7, and will enter her 25th year of teaching this fall. While she concentrated on dance, she also has a theater background.

“I produced my first main stage production at the Youngstown Playhouse when I was a senior in high school,” Reesey said.

She has since choreographed more than 100 productions. She was also a judge for the “I Love Dance” competition and traveled the country as a competition judge.

Trea Reesey, Reesey’s husband, said she is a role model for her dancers.

“She understands her dancers. She teaches them to be young ladies and how to carry themselves. This is very important to her. She is role model for her girls,” Reesey said.

Reesey is very passionate about her dancers.

“My No. 1 priority is my kids,” Reesey stated.

The studio will be accepting registration for fall classes from Aug. 10-24.

Fall classes begin Sept. 19. For more information, call 330-533-2948.
