On Tuesdays in the summertime, a journey to Austintown Township Park offers a surefire good time. Each week, the park hosts its Concerts in the Park and Austintown residents flock to soak up the sun and good tunes.

The park hosted its first concert of the season on June 7 and entertained the large crowd with the traditional Italian sound of the Frank Gallo Trio. Long-time guests to the event were there to show their support for another season of entertaining.

Austintown Historical Society has set up a booth for snacks and refreshments for every concert for many years.

“It’s nice to get to meet people and talk to them about our passion. There is a lot of history here in Austintown and even buying a cookie and coffee from us during the concert helps keep our landmarks taken care of,” explained AHS member Carol Kuzma.

Having a bird’s-eye view on the event offers the society’s volunteers a chance to make interesting observations.

“Everyone loves coffee, even in the heat of the summertime,” said volunteer Veronica Terzak with a laugh. “That, and most people have their own little shady spot that they always come back to.”

Austintown natives Sandi and Kim Thomas and Mary and Nick Vidas definitely have their own spot at the concerts.

“We’ve been coming to every concert, every season, for the last 20 years. We love it and we plan on coming 20 more,” shared Sandi Thomas.

Austintown Park will continue to entertain for the remainder of the summer, welcoming Youngstown Area Community Concert Band, the River Riders and Uptown Saturday Night in the coming weeks.
