Astro Falcons wins Mack state title game

Astro Falcons defeated Rondinelli Tuxedo, 16-6, to win the Connie Mack state championship at Cene Park on Friday night.

Brendan Cox led Astro with a double, single and three RBIs, while Wyatt Montgomery and James Coates had two hits apiece. Tyler Gentile finished with a triple and single, while John Beatty hit a three-run double. Dan Popio also hit a triple.

For Rondinelli, Todd Fennick had three hits, including a triple. Joe Killian added a double and single, while Dan Ferguson drove in two runs.

Astro Falcons 7, Team Ohio 6

Astro prevailed in the semifinals in nine inngs. Dan Mioni had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs to lead Astro. John Beatty added two hits and two RBIs, while Brendan Wells and Tyler Gentile hit doubles.

Rondinelli Tuxedo 4, Dave Sugar Excavating 3

Dan Reese pitched a complete game for Rondinelli, scattering nine hits. Joe Killiam hit a pair of doubles and two RBIs for the winners and Justin McGinnis added a double and single. Todd Fennick drove in the go-ahead run. Jason Revesz had three hits, including a double, for Sugar, while Cody Herald had two singles.

NABF Junior Regional

Carrington Bell suffered the loss despite a fine performance and hit a triple in Astro Falcons’ 2-1 loss to North Coast Vipers. Sabatino Dinardo had a double and single, while Nico Dianni hit two singles.

Diamond Boys 9, Livi Steel 2

Joe Wilaj had two hits for Livi, while Nick Gigax added a double.

Rondinelli Tuxedo 5, Andy’s 9ers 2

Ryan Fleming gave up one earned run in 4 2/3 innings for Rondinelli and Edmond Pilolli earned the save. John-Mark Weisman had three hits for the winners, while Kane Durkin and Pat Carlozzi hit doubles.

Also Northern Ohio Hurricanes defeated Brownlee Lookouts 7-6.

NABF Sophomore Regional

Action Physical Therapy defeated North Coast USA 10-6 in the tournament opener. Trey Staunch had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Connor DiGiacomo and Phil Socha had two hits each, and Ty Wansack hit a double.

Astro Falcons 8, Manchester A’s 4

Ricky Svetlak had three hits to lead Astro, while Marcus Donnadie hit a double. Bryan Fryda was the winning pitcher in relief.

CANFIELD SOFTBALL

ELYRIA

The Canfield 12U team was eliminated on Friday from the Little League state tournament by Elyria, 9-4.

Earlier on Friday Canfield fell to Wheelersburg, 8-5. Amelia Manenti had two hits for Canfield, which finished in third place in the tournament.

On Thursday Canfield defeated Xenia 23-0, as Carolina Griswold and Kayla Troxil combined on a no-hitter.

Maura Kennedy, Madison Johns and Griswold all had four hits in the win, while Bridget Durkin and Amelia Manenti had two apiece.

Little League

Boardman won the 11U and 10U district baseball championships recently. Boardman defeated Howland 7-4 in the 11U championship game and will play in the state tournament in Hamilton on July 30-Aug. 5.

Boardman’s 10U team also defeated Howland, 15-4, in the title game, and will play in the state tournament in Tallmadge on July 30-Aug. 5.

Also, Poland defeated Howland 8-3 in the 12U tournament to advance to the championship round against Canfield.

In softball (10U) play, Boardman defeated Springfield 12-6, Canfield edged Howland 8-4 and Crestview defeated Poland 8-5.

In games on Thursday, Crestview defeated Canfield 6-5, Boardman beat Columbiana 16-5, Poland edged Springfield 5-3, and Howland outslugged Girard 27-23.

Warren AA

Jake Abbott tossed a two-hit shutout and Nick Harper’s single drove in the game’s only run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Sunrise Inn edged P.I.&I. Express 1-0.

Mark Stanovcak led off the inning with a single and came around on Harper’s hit. Cliff Panezich added a double for Sunrise.
