Swierz resigns as Youngstown council president pro tem
YOUNGSTOWN
Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, is resigning from the city council president pro tem position, effective Thursday.
He submitted the resignation this week to the council clerk.
According to the city charter, president pro tem is named council president if the council president becomes mayor.
When Mayor Jay Williams leaves that seat next month to become the country’s auto czar, Charles Sammarone, council president, will become mayor.
Swierz, who previously served as council president, has said he doesn’t want to run citywide right now.
Council will now appoint another of its members to be pro tem.
