Police call off black-bear search

Staff report

WARREN

A black bear romped through a southwest Warren neighborhood around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, sending police officers in pursuit, though they called off the search after nearly an hour.

Police received the first call from a resident of Oak Street Southwest, but additional calls also were received as the animal moved around the neighborhood.

It was spotted on Front Street Southwest heading south toward Quimby Park, which is on Austin Avenue Southwest near the former Western Reserve High School.

For nearly an hour, officers followed the animal in an area of several square blocks. The police department called wildlife officials but got voice mail.

By about 10:10 a.m., officers called off the search, noting that the bear had not injured anyone.
