DAYTON

Police in Ohio say an ice-cream truck driver was shot and killed driving his truck in a neighborhood that residents say had been part of his route for years.

Dayton police say the 60-year-old man was shot Tuesday evening minutes after he sold ice cream to children near an apartment complex a couple of blocks away. A Montgomery County coroner’s official identified him as Carl Banks of Dayton.

Police tell the Dayton Daily News they suspect he may have been the target of a failed robbery attempt.

The newspaper and WDTN-TV reported police initially thought they were responding to an accident scene because the truck crashed into a house, causing minor damage.

Media outlets report officers found the driver dead behind the wheel.
