Eastwood Rib Festival
Staff report
NILES
The Eastwood Rib Festival returns tonight through Sunday with a full slate of live music and ribs from some of the country’s best cookers. It runs from noon to midnight each day in the parking lot in front of Eastwood Mall on U.S. route 224.
Survivor, the ’80s rock band best known for hits such as “Eye of the Tiger” and “The Search is Over,” will perform at 9:30 p.m. Friday.
On Saturday, a trio of Pittsburgh rockers will hold sway, with Norman Nardini and the Tigers, Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers and Donnie Iris and the Cruisers.
At 4:15 p.m. Saturday, the bands will take a break for a Rib Fest tradition: The Y-103 Bikini Contest. Contestants will show off their best beach-side style for cash prizes.
On Sunday, aspiring country crooners will battle in the Texaco Country Showdown, presented by Rick’s Ranchwear and K-105. This new addition is the local stop in a national competition to find the next country-music star. The national champion wins $100,000.
Eight rib cookers will set up shop at the festival: Armadillo’s/Barry Dyngle’s, Austintown; Carolina Rib King, Spartanburg, S.C.; Guy’s BBQ, Newton Falls; Mojo’s Rib Shack, Coolville, Ohio; Pig Foot BBQ, West Salem, Ohio; Smokin’ Joe’s BBQ, Columbus; and Uncle Butter’s BBQ, Warren.
Admission to the Eastwood Rib Fest is free every day until 5 p.m., and $5 afterward (free for children 12 and under).
