Body found in Ohio septic tank at abandoned trailer

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in rural central Ohio have found a body in a septic tank behind an abandoned mobile home.

Knox County Sheriff David Barber told reporters at the scene on Wednesday that investigators suspect it’s the body of a man who went missing in the Canton area about two years ago. Barber says an autopsy will be done Friday.

Multiple media outlets report that a tip led deputies to the site, about 45 miles northeast of Columbus. According to the Mount Vernon News, authorities unearthed the septic tank using a backhoe and truck.

The sheriff says the body appeared to have been in the tank for “an extended period.”
