Accredited facility

WARREN

The St. Joseph Health Center Department of Radiology recently received certification as an accredited carotid artery stent facility.

Dr. Mehrdad Zarrinmakan, a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, performs the minimally invasive procedure used to treat a blockage in the carotid arteries, which are located on each side of the neck and supply blood to the brain.

When plaque builds up and reduces blood flow in the carotid arteries, it causes carotid artery disease, which can lead to blood clots blocking blood flow to the brain, which possibly can lead to a stroke.
