Newton Falls mom pleads guilty in son's death
WARREN
A woman whose 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself to death Aug. 4, 2010, has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Amanda R. Stewart, 35, most recently of Windham, could get up to five years in prison when she is sentenced in about five weeks. She entered her plea Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Police said the boy was unsupervised when he apparently used one of six firearms that were unsecured in his parents’ bedroom and shot himself while his mother was “chasing the dog.”
The family, including children 6 months, 21⁄2 years and 6 years — was living on Trumbull Court in Newton Falls at the time.
Newton Falls police said it appeared that the boy’s father, Michael J. Stewart, 29, was at work at the time. Charges against him are pending.
