Man on house arrest after store incident

A 42-year-old West Ravenwood Avenue man has been placed on electronically monitored house arrest and is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after an episode at a South Side grocery store.

Bernard Carter is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal damaging. He was arraigned on the charges Tuesday in Youngstown Municipal Court and is due back in court July 28 before Judge Elizabeth Kobly.

According to police, Carter was in the parking lot of the Save A-Lot grocery store on South Avenue at 7:48 p.m. Monday threatening to kill a man. When officers asked him to stop his disruptive behavior, reports say Carter tried to attack the man, then screamed profanities at police officers.

Reports say Carter had to be shot with a stun gun in order to be taken into custody. After being placed in handcuffs, Carter reportedly slammed his body into a lobby window of the grocery store repeatedly until the glass broke. Carter was cut on the elbow by broken glass.
