Staff report

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.

Kelly Dugan hit a three-run homer and Taylor Black added a two-run bomb to lead the Williamsport Crosscutters to a 7-4 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a New York-Penn League game on Monday night.

The loss dropped the second-place Scrappers’ record to 14-11 and put them one game behind Jamestown in the NY-P’s Pinckney Division. Williamsport improved to 12-13 and is three games out of first place in the division.

Cody Elliott had two singles and a triple for the Scrappers, while Jake Lowery had a pair of doubles and a RBI, and K.C. Serna singled twice, but Williamsport rallied from a 4-0 deficit.

Mahoning Valley took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on Lowery’s first double of the game and an infield single by John Barr.

The Scrappers made it 4-0 in the fourth inning when Elliott led off with a triple and Serna walked. Tony Wolters grounded out, moving Serna to second, but keeping Elliott at third.

Elliott was then gunned down at home by Williamsport third baseman Maikel Franco, who fielded Lowery’s grounder and threw to catcher Bob Stumpo for the tag.

Jordan Smith walked to load the bases, and Serna and Lowery scored when Barr’s grounder was mishandled by ’Cutters’ second baseman Cody Asche.

Cody Allen (2-1) allowed three runs in three innings of relief and took the loss.
