Teen struck by vehicle at New Castle festival
NEW CASTLE
A vehicle struck a 19-year-old, female pedestrian Saturday night during the city’s annual Fireworks Festival.
She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown in critical condition and later flown to a Pittsburgh hospital.
The type of her injuries were not released as of Sunday night.
The accident occurred on East Washington Street around 10:45 p.m., according to police.
The police continue to investigate.
Elder care lecture set
GIRARD
Atty. Elliot Legow will give a free lecture on issues involving elder care, Medicaid and other matters affecting senior citizens at 6 p.m. Thursday at Girard Free Library, 106 E. Medicaid rules apply toward both PASSPORT in-home services and residential care in a long-term care facility. Caregivers and family members involved in determining financial plans need to understand Medicaid rules to know how and when services can be provided by Medicaid. Legow also will give basic descriptions of durable power of attorney for health care, living will, and durable power of attorney for handling business affairs.
Fair office opens
The Columbiana County Fair office at the fairgrounds in Lisbon will open today with daily hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
All grandstand reserved seating tickets can be purchased at the office for $5, including truck and tractor pulls and demolition derbies. General admission tickets (7 for $30), which do not include rides, can also be purchased.

The fair will be Aug. 1-7.
Roe v. Wade discussion planned
A discussion about the 40 years since the Roe v. Wade decision will take place at 7 p.m. today at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown on the corner of Elm Street and Illinois Avenue.
Emily Thome, vice president for development at Planned Parenthood Northeast Ohio will act as moderator. Panelists will be Karen O’Malia and Ginny Shorten, who spearheaded Right to Choose efforts prior to and directly following the Roe v. Wade decision, and Sarah Lowry and Molly Toth, graduate students involved in women’s reproductive health issues.
The cost is $3. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
