Air-quality advisory for Mahoning Valley

The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments has issued an Air Quality Advisory Day for today in the Mahoning Valley because of an increased level of pollutants that will settle in the Valley.

According to its release, a southwesterly wind will carry in pollutants, and high temperatures expected today will hold a moderate level of pollutants in place.

The Air Quality Index measures the daily levels of pollutants in an urban area.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency warns groups sensitive to pollutants to limit outdoor activity, the release said. The group includes children and people with asthma.

Tuesday’s cold front is expected to disperse the pollutants bringing AQI levels back to good levels.

However, the EPA expects a southeasterly wind Friday will transport pollutants back into the Valley, bringing AQI levels back to moderate.
