B-17 bomber to visit Y-W Regional Airport

A restored B-17 bomber plane will visit the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport Aug. 5-7.

The plane, called “Aluminum Overcast,” was built in 1945, but delivered to the Army Air Corps too late to see active service in World War II.

The plane was donated to the Experimental Aircraft Association in 1981 with the provision that it be maintained in airworthy condition. Since 1994, the organization has flown the B-17 bomber nationwide.

The organization is offering flights aboard the plane during its visit to the airport. Flights aboard the plane are $439 per person and $399 for EAA members.

Also, there will be ground tours of the plane. Those tours are free to military veterans and EAA members.

The cost for a ground tour is $15 per family or $5 each for those 8 years old and older. That tour is free to children under 8 accompanied by a paying adult.
