A brief look at Saturday’s eighth stage of the Tour de France.

Stage: A 189-kilometer trek from Aigurande to the Super-Besse ski resort.

Winner: Rui Alberto Costa of Portugal claimed a solo victory at the first mountaintop finish of this year’s race. He finished 12 seconds ahead of Philippe Gilbert of Belgium. Cadel Evans of Australia was third.

Yellow Jersey: Thor Hushovd of Norway. Hushovd finished with the main contenders and kept the overall lead, 1 second ahead of Evans.
