AMERICAN LEAGUE
White Sox 4, Twins 3
CHICAGO
Alexei Ramirez hit a game-ending RBI single with two out in the ninth inning, sending Chicago to its first win over the Twins in seven meetings this season. The White Sox also ended a nine-game losing streak to Minnesota dating to last season. A.J. Pierzynski, who entered when catcher Ramon Castro broke his right hand on a passed ball in the eighth inning, doubled off Jose Mijares (0-1) to start the ninth. After two fly outs, Juan Pierre walked and Alex Burnett relieved before Ramirez lined a single to center. Jesse Crain (5-2) got three outs for the win.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Reds 8, Brewers 4
10 innings
MILWAUKEE
Jay Bruce hit a solo homer to start the 10th inning and Cincinnati exploded for five runs to beat the Milwaukee Brewers after the Reds met before the game to clear the air following more than a week of frustration. The Reds, who also got a home run from Ramon Hernandez early, had lost six of their previous eight to fall a season-worst two games under .500 and appeared to be in trouble several times in this one. But Bruce hit a towering homer off Marco Estrada (2-6) to right field, his 21st this seaso.
Cardinals 7, Diamondbacks 6
ST. LOUIS
Albert Pujols tied it in the eighth inning with his first home run since returning the disabled list and rookie pinch-hitter Tony Cruz hit a game-ending RBI double in the ninth, capping the St. Louis Cardinals’ comeback from a four-run deficit. Pujols’ 18th homer, and first in five games back from a broken left wrist, was a two-run shot off Yhency Brazoban.
