Author will sign her children’s book
LORDSTOWN
Author Connie Randolph, a Salineville resident, will sign copies of her children’s book, “Casper Joe,” at the new Hike and Splash event Saturday.
She will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fundraiser, which will take place at Broadview Acres Country Canine Resort, 419 Salt Springs Road.
The story is about a puppy trying to be brave at the veterinarian’s office.
Champion grad authors novel
“Wolf Pact: The New Order,” written by Champion High School graduate Gerald L. Guy, recently debuted at online bookstores.
Guy, 61, is the former editor of the Tribune Chronicle. He is retired and lives in Palm Coast, Fla., with his wife, Joanne.
In the novel, Guy’s first published, W. Jefferson Prescott and his followers are a species of wolf that can alter their genetic makeup to walk as humans. The Cossibyes are people who could — and might — live next door to you. Their powers can be maintained only through good deeds.

Cortland author writes about ‘Gitmo,’ Marines

Don A. DeWitt of Cortland, author of “U.S. Marines at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba,” will sign the book from 2 to 4 p.m. July 30 at Starbucks, 1926 Niles-Cortland Road SE (state Route 46).
Books will be available to buy along with DeWitt’s two previous books.
The latest work presents the history of Guantanamo Bay as a U.S. Naval Base and explains the strategic importance of “Gitmo” to the Navy’s Atlantic Fleet and the U.S. Coast Guard. Readers will find out what our Marines do every day to protect the base from potential aggression by Communist Cuba. They will also learn about the actual events that inspired the movie “A Few Good Men.”

Book analyzes the role of Ohio in elections

The University of Akron Press has released “Buckeye Battleground” by Daniel J. Coffey, John C. Green, David B. Cohen and Stephen C. Brooks.
The book focuses on the 2004 and 2008 presidential campaigns and the 2006 Ohio gubernatorial campaign, and it explains why Ohio plays such an important role in American elections. Using historical analysis, demographic data and public opinion surveys, the authors demonstrate Ohio’s role as the “battleground” state.
