Air-quality advisory issued for Mahoning Valley for Monday

The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments has issued an air-quality advisory for the Mahoning Valley for Monday .

High pressure will move over the northeastern U.S. today causing light and variable winds to develop in the Mahoning Valley. These winds will limit pollutant dispersion. In addition, mostly sunny skies and very high temperatures will enhance the formation of ozone.

As a result, AQI levels will be high Monday.

Moderate southwesterly winds ahead of an approaching cold front will transport moisture and pollutants into the Youngstown-Warren region, enhancing particle production. Furthermore, partly sunny skies and temperatures approaching 90 degrees will aid ozone production. These conditions will result in unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups

On Tuesday, a cold front will move through Ohio, producing scattered thunderstorms and moderate northerly winds in the Mahoning Valley. These weather conditions will disperse pollutants and lower AQI levels to good levels.
