Try out for the CHS golf team

The Canfield High School boys golf team will host tryouts Aug. 1 and 2 at 7:30 a.m. at the Mill Creek Golf Course.

Canfield club sets tennis tournament

The Canfield Swim and Tennis Club Tennis Open will be this weekend.

There will be eight divisions. Today, the divisions are men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and 12-younger mixed doubles. For more information, call 330-385-6141.

Rousher commits to Miami University

Canfield High football player Jimmy Rousher has verbally committed to Miami of Ohio.

Rousher, who is 6-foot-2 and weighs 260 pounds, is a two-year starter for the Cardinals at tight end and defensive line.

Classes offered for football officials

The Youngstown District Football Officials Association is hosting a training class for new football officials this summer. The class will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Dr., Boardman.

Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. beginning July 19.

The class is open to participants ages 14 and up.

Canfield’s Bowden takes third in Ohio golf championship

Lori Bowden of Canfield shot 82-77—159 to take third place in the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship.

The event was held at the par-72 Salem Golf Club and was won by Lynn Thompson of Cincinnati with a 77-78—155.

Diane McCall (Canfield) shot 180.

Canfield searching for cheerleading adviser

Canfield High School is searching to fill the varsity cheerleading adviser position.

Closest to the pin wins

Golfers will have nine chances to win a prize during the closest to the pin golf challenge at the Par 3 golf Course at Wick Recreation Area July 31 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The fee to enter is $5.

Ohio Glaciers in USSSA major world series

The Ohio Glaciers 12U baseball team has earned a berth in the USSSA Elite 32 Major World Series.

The team includes several players from the Mahoning Valley.

The Glaciers will compete among 32 USSSA travel teams in the country at a week-long tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on July 9-17.

The winners of this week-long tournament will then qualify to represent USSSA at the National Youth Championship in August that will be televised on MLB TV.

Scrappers tickets benefit food bank

To benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, Mahoning Valley Scrappers invite all faiths to attend the 2011 Faith Night series at Eastwood Field.

The food bank will receive $1 for each ticket purchased through pre-sale only.
