Sabourin’s RBI single lifts Scrappers in 10th

Jerrud Sabourin hit a two-out single to score Jordan Smith with the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeated Williamsport 4-3 in a New York-Penn League game Friday night at Eastwood Field.
Smith and Sabourin each had two hits and Sabourin had two RBIs for the Scrappers (13-9), who won their second straight.
Mahoning Valley trails Jamestown by one game in the Pinckney Division standings.
Nathan Striz (1-1) pitched three shutout innings of relief, striking out two, walking three and giving up two hits.
Jake Lowery hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo blast in the fourth inning.
Harold Guerrero started and gave up two runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out two. Cody Allen pitched 21/3 innings of relief, giving up one run on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
Hector Neris (0-1) pitched the 10th to get the loss for the Crosscutters (10-12). Aaron Altherr and Harold Martinez each had two hits.
The Scrappers trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh when Todd Hankins led off the inning with a single and Sabourin followed with an RBI double to tie it.
The Scrappers loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth but Bryan Morgado struck out Sabourin and Cody Elliott to end the threat.
Mahoning Valley starts a three-game road swing at Williamsport tonight.
