City police probe assault in Wick Park

Police are trying to determine who sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman in Wick Park earlier this week.
According to police reports, the woman told officers she was walking home from Youngstown State University at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and decided to take a shortcut through the park. Reports do not say whether the woman is a YSU student.
The woman told officers she was grabbed from behind, punched in the face and forced to the ground by a black male. The man, reports said, covered the woman’s mouth and fondled her under her clothes.
The woman bit the attacker, forcing him to let her mouth go. The woman began screaming, and the attacker ran away.
The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for observation.
No fireworks at fest
YOUNGSTOWN
St. Christine Church has decided not to have a fireworks show this year after its annual parish festival ends Sunday.
“Its a big expense, and we questioned whether it’s worth it,” said Rev. David Rhodes. “We wanted to cut costs.”
Rhodes said normally the church spent about $4,000 annually on fireworks.
Campbell man nabbed on drug charge
YOUNGSTOWN
Police charged David Banks, 22, of 131 Jean St., Campbell, with drug trafficking Friday after a security officer at the Western Reserve Transit Authority station, 340 W. Federal St., said he saw Banks selling marijuana in a bathroom.
The security officer said he followed banks into the restroom after seeing him showing people something inside a backpack he was carrying.
When the security officer walked into the bathroom, he saw a young male giving Banks a $20 bill while Banks was handing the male a package of marijuana.
When police arrived at the bus station, 12 packages of marijuana, $104 in cash and a backpack were on the security desk.
If convicted, Banks faces up to one year in prison.
Warren man pleads not guilty in abduction
WARREN
Aubrey Adams, 28, of Prospect Street Northwest, pleaded not guilty Friday in Warren Municipal Court to an abduction charge after his arrest Thursday.
He is accused of ordering a teen at gunpoint into a vehicle.
Police said Adams abducted a 17-year-old Warren boy about 9:30 p.m. while the boy was walking on North Park Avenue.
The victim said he had been having an ongoing problem with Adams over a possibly stolen television.
The victim said Adams got out of a vehicle and approached him, pointing a handgun at the victim’s chest and asking where Adams’ television was. Adams then ordered the victim into his car at gunpoint and drove him to a Warren apartment complex where Adams thought the television might be, police said.
Afterward, Adams dropped off the victim on Waverly Avenue. Police arrested Adams near a vehicle on Atlantic Street a short time later and found a handgun in the trunk of the car.
Arkansas man to be extradited
WARREN
Karon D. Mohammed, 28, of Conway, Ark., appeared in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court this week and agreed to be extradited to Arkansas, where he is wanted by Garland County police on a homicide charge. Liberty police, acting on a tip, arrested Mohammed on Saturday in an apartment in the 500 block of Gypsy Lane.
