Texas Rangers fan dies from fall reaching for ball


ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The family of the man who died at a Texas Rangers baseball game has released a statement expressing appreciation for the support they have received.

Shannon Stone died Thursday night at a hospital. He was at the game with his 6-year-old son. He was reaching for a foul ball tossed to him by Rangers star Josh Hamilton when he tumbled over an outfield railing and plunged 20 feet onto concrete.

The 39-year-old firefighter from Brownwood died at a hospital a short time later. He leaves a 36-year-old wife along with his son.

Melanie Larose, a family friend, released a statement on behalf of the family today that says they are devastated by the tragedy. The family thanked everyone for their support and asked for privacy.
