Police: 4 fatally shot in Wyo. town; 1 arrested
WHEATLAND, Wyo. (AP) — Police say four people have been shot to death at a residence in a southeast Wyoming town, and a suspect is in custody.
Police in Wheatland, about 90 miles north of Cheyenne, say officers responded to a report of shots fired at the residence shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.
They say they arrested a man identified as Everett Conant, in his mid-30s, after a brief standoff. They say he surrendered without incident.
Police say some of the victims were minors. One other person was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Department says Conant is in the county jail, but it has no record of whether he has an attorney.
Attempts to reach prosecutors and other authorities for more information today were not immediately successful.
Wheatland is a farming and ranching town of about 3,500 at the edge of the plains, not far from the Laramie Mountains.
