Ex-cop charged with murdering 2 women in Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a retired Missouri police officer with murdering two women and sexually assaulting a third, and they say DNA testing links him to all three attacks.

Cass County Prosecutor Teresa Hensley said Friday that 52-year-old Harrison resident Jeffrey Dean Moreland is charged with first-degree murder in the 2008 slaying of 30-year-old Cara Jo Roberts and the 2010 slaying of 75-year-old Nina Whitney.

Roberts was shot in the head in her Harrisonville home and Whitney was stabbed and strangled in her south Kansas City home.

Hensley says another woman reported that Moreland raped her at his home last week. She says DNA evidence from that assault linked Moreland to all three attacks.

Moreland is in Cass County Jail on $1 million bond. He does not have an attorney.
