Boat involved in fatal Pa. accident was speeding

CONFLUENCE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a high-performance boat that flipped over on a western Pennsylvania river, killing its driver, had been spotted speeding before the accident.

The body of 50-year-old Patrick Himmler, of Cumberland, Md., was found Wednesday afternoon in the Youghiogheny River Lake. That was three days after the boat flipped over on Saturday, ejecting Himmler and two others.

Investigators believe Himmler was piloting the boat at the time of the accident.

Jeff Hawk, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers, tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that a ranger had been trying to locate the boat before the accident because there had been complaints about its speed.

Hawk says the ranger had stopped to help another boater when the accident occurred.
