Some Social Security questions
Some Social Security questions
We are being bombarded every day in every news media outlet about cutting Social Security and Medicare. The numbers that keep floating around are that 77 million baby boomers are going to go on the system thus bankrupting it.
My issue is and continues to be this: If 77 million baby boomers were born, I guarantee you that there are not 77 million left alive. Illnesses, obesity, Vietnam and Agent Orange, all the Woodstock drug generation that have died and then the car deaths, work deaths, suicides and just unexpected deaths that no one saw coming are happening everyday. The number of baby boomers dying is huge. We seem to be averaging five a day (1,825 a year) in The Vindicator. What is the amount in New York or Chicago or Boston or Atlanta or any of the big cities with millions of people across the United States? How many boomers are actually left, how many will never live to make the system? Somebody needs to check those numbers because I do not think that 77 million are going to flood the system. I believe we are being lied to.
As for Medicare, all kinds of “free” medical equipment that is paid for through Medicare is advertised. It’s not free. People should get what they need when their doctors deems they need it. And recycle wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches and any other reusable equipment to a central location where these can be sanitized and retooled and reused. How many have unused medical equipment sitting around their houses?
And as for all the wealthy folks who don’t want to pay more taxes, you are not being asked to do something too hard for you to do. If you have the power to pay the taxes that can get our country out of fiscal crisis and don’t do it, then what good are you? You are the strong. You have the power to fix this in your hands just by paying your taxes. And you’ll receive much of that money back in return.
Lastly, what in the world do those politicians think that Social Security money is going to? Folks shop for groceries and medicines thus keeping stores in business. They pay their medical bills and medical insurance or car or home or burial insurance. They pay utilities and rent, or if they own their own homes, they pay taxes at the local level supporting their schools and communities. Some people are too old to cook for themselves anymore but are able to go to get a sandwich and a coffee somewhere thus helping the food industry.
Cutting Social Security would have a domino effect.
