Shootings in Toledo worry city leaders
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A rash of shootings this summer in Ohio’s fourth-largest city has Toledo police beefing up patrols and community leaders searching for answers.
A 40-year-old man who was shot over the weekend and died Tuesday became the third person to die in Toledo shootings since June.
The Blade newspaper reports 27 people were shot in June and that seven have been shot so far this month.
Police are working with federal agencies in a crackdown on illegal guns. The program that began last week resulted in 19 arrests in just one day.
Officials within the police department say they think most of violence can be traced to gangs in the city.
