Paper: Forgery of Orie papers confirmed
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A new report issued by the U.S. Secret Service is confirming that some defense documents introducted in the aborted criminal trial of state Sen. Jane Orie shows evidence of forgery.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Wednesday that a supplemental report by the Secret Service from June 10 related to the Orie case showed evidence of fake signatures.
Allegheny County assistant District Attorney Lawrence Claus is seeking a hearing about the signatures to refute insinuation that prosecutors doctored the documents.
A judge declared a mistrial in Orie’s case in March
Orie, R-Allegheny, and her sister, Janine Orie, remain charged with misusing the senator’s state-funded legislative staff to do political work for the senator and a third sister, state Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin, who has not been charged.
