OSHP: Holiday drunken-driving arrests down

COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it made more arrests on Ohio roads during the Fourth of July weekend, though fewer for drunken driving.

Troopers conclude that Ohioans heeded the patrol’s warnings not to drink and drive around the holiday.

The patrol said in a statement today that troopers made more than 26,000 traffic stops for law-enforcement actions from Friday through Monday. That was 13.5 percent more than during last year’s long holiday weekend.

Officials say 590 arrests of this year’s arrests were for impaired driving — 21 fewer arrests than during the comparable period in 2010.
