Bad eighth inning dooms Scrappers

Todd Hankins had two hits and scored both Mahoning Valley runs but a bad eighth inning doomed the Scrappers to a 3-2 loss to Batavia on Monday night in a New York-Penn League game.
Jerrud Sabourin also had two hits for the Scrappers (11-7), who led 2-0 before giving up three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Mahoning Valley remained tied with Jamestown for first place in the Pinckney Division.
The Scrappers have lost three of their last four games.
Starter Danny Jimenez gave up three hits over four scoreless innings, striking out six and walking two.
Cody Allen gave up one run over 31/3 innings before getting relieved by Enosil Tejeda (1-2), who gave up two runs in two-thirds of an inning to get the loss.
Jonathan Cornelius started and gave up one hit over four innings for the Muckdogs, while Andrew Benes (one run in three innings), Eric Binder (one run in one inning) and Danny Miranda (one shutout inning) finished the game.
Binder (2-0) got the win while Miranda earned his fourth save.
Juan Castillo and Jeremy Patton each singled and scored for Batavia (8-10).
The Scrappers will play at Batavia tonight before returning home for a three-game homestand against Williamsport starting Wednesday at Eastwood Field.
