Police are warning residents not to violate the city’s ordinance against possessing or selling fireworks.

Police will patrol the neighborhoods and cite violators. “We expect people to use common sense,” said Detective Jeff Pantall.

Kinsman man killed in one-car crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle crash that killed a 19-year-old Kinsman man.

Troopers said Timothy J. Hess died after his Ford Contour went off the left side of Cadwallader Sonk Road and hit a tree before coming to rest on its roof about 4:10 a.m. Saturday.

South Side shooting

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a South Side shooting in which a 22-year-old man was wounded in his arm Saturday. Police said the man told officers he was visiting his girlfriend on Cooper Street when he walked away from the house and was shot about 6 p.m. The man told police he did not see anything and had no description of who shot him, reports state.

A neighbor told police he saw a black late-model Pontiac Grand Prix flee the scene east on Cooper, but was unsure if it was related to the earlier sound of a gunshot, according to reports. The 22-year-old man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center where a nursing supervisor said there was no record of his being admitted.

John Less from Trumbull County Senior Court will instruct an American Association of Retired Persons driving class for those 60 and older from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 11 at Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave.

Seating is limited to 15 to 20 people. The course will focus on senior defensive driving, safe-driving strategies, roads and highways and understanding your vehicle.
