Javel M. Bates, 34, of Lake Shore Boulevard, Euclid, is in Mahoning County Jail and will appear in Youngstown Municipal Court on Tuesday after police charged him with aggravated burglary, resisting arrest and failure to comply with police after a police chase early Sunday afternoon.
Police gave this account: A cruiser was traveling north on Shady Run Road and waiting to make a left turn onto Indianola when a vehicle ran a red light and nearly hit the police car. The speeding vehicle continued on Indianola with police in pursuit, then traveled on various streets, ending up on Humboldt. The driver of the vehicle ignored all traffic signs.
The vehicle came to an abrupt halt in the 1300 block of Humboldt, where the driver fled the vehicle and a foot pursuit ensued. Police heard a loud noise and saw the suspect enter a residence on Humboldt through a hole he created. Police heard children screaming inside and told them to exit through the front door, which they did.
Police set up a perimeter, and a police dog was called in. The dog located the suspect in a northwest bedroom, where police found $1,050 in currency and keys to a vehicle. They also recovered a laptop computer, phone charger, $10 and camera in a bag on the porch.
The children’s mother told police that Bates had stayed at the residence the night before but was not her boyfriend.
