David Wenger recently won the USA Cycling’s Elite National Championship Criterium event in Augusta Georgia among the nation’s top Category 1 riders. Wenger, a 1998 graduate of South Range High and Miami University in 2002, also placed eighth in the time trial event.
Wenger lives in Austin, Texas, where he operates a cycling and triathlete coaching business called Durata Training.
Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Cycle Sales of Boardman, he’ll give a cycling clinic to help promote next weekend’s Tour of the Valley cycling event.
Ursuline sets youth football camp
YOUNGSTOWN
The Ursuline High School youth football camp will be on July 11-12 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Guest coaches will be from colleges and the NFL.
The non-contact camp is available to any student up through the eight grade. Cost is $60 in advance and $65 at door.
Campers will receive a T-shirt, Under Armour sackpack, instruction from House of Speed, a pizza party on the second day of camp and football instruction.

University of Akron hires Rembielak
AKRON
Rick Rembielak, a three-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year who has compiled more than 500 career wins at Wake Forest University and Kent State University, has been hired as the head baseball coach at the University of Akron.
Rembielak, a Cleveland native and 1988 graduate of UA, won four MAC regular-season championships and three league tournament titles at KSU where he remains the all-time winningest coach of any sport with a career record of 373-251-1 (.597).
In 11 seasons as the Golden Flashes’ head coach, Rembielak was 200-100 (.667) against league members and led KSU to 12 consecutive MAC Tournament appearances.
Columbiana’s Frost wins triathlon

Amanda Frost, 32, celebrated her first wedding anniversary on June 26 by winning the Elite Olympic division in the Dam Tri, a USA Triathlon sanctioned event at Woodcock Creek Lake near Meadeville, Pa. More than 300 athletes competed in all divisions of the event.
Frost, competing for the first time this year over an Olympic distance course, was the third elite female out of the water after the 0.93 mile swim, but passed her competitors during a 24.8 mile bike leg. She then held off last year’s winner Nicolina Pierce of Erie over the 6.2 mile run to win by 28 seconds for a total time of 2:26:50.

Gia Difabio was left off the list of Austintown players who were on the Meander district championship winning team in a story in Friday’s edition.
Redskins hire former YSU player
WASHINGTON
The Washington Redskins have hired Kyle Smith to be the team’s scout for the Southwest region.
Smith, a former Youngstown State University wide receiver and punt returner, was hired by the Redskins in 2010 as a scouting intern.
Miami hires Klacik
OXFORD
Former Youngstown State assistant coach John Klacik is the new offensive coordinator at Miami (Ohio).
Klacik, who most recently spent six seasons as head coach at Lock Haven — his alma mater — is reunited with Miami coach Don Treadwell.
Klacik was on the YSU staff under Jim Tressel and was a coach on all four national championship teams.
Also, former YSU assistant Pete Rekstis is the Redhawks’ defensive coordinator.
