Trumbull students win in SWCD essay competition

Winners of the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District essay contest have been announced. The theme was “Forests for people, more than you can imagine.”

Gianna Pishotti, an eighth-grader from Howland Middle School, took first place for her essay in the junior division, for grades six through eight. She received $75.

Second place and $50 went to Monica Kotyuk, also of Howland Middle School.

Third place and $25 went to Morgan Chitwood of Bloomfield-Mespo. Honorable mention went to Andrew Matthews of Howland Middle School.

In the senior division for grades nine through 12, Brittany Dowel, a senior at Labrae High School, received the first-place award.

Sarah Bennett and Jacob Jaros, also seniors from Labrae, won second and third place, respectively. Kathryn Demski of LaBrae was awarded an honorable mention.
