Hilltop Elementary School hosted its annual third and fourth grade awards assembly June 7 during which students were awarded certificates for attendance, earning all As and Bs and earning all As throughout the year.
Students who earned all As and Bs were named to the A-B Honor Roll and students who earned straight As all year were named to the Principal’s Honor Roll.
A special handwriting award, which was decided upon by each teacher, was also awarded to two or three students in each classroom.
Cathy Mowry, principal of Hilltop, served as master of ceremonies.
“Well, fourth-graders, you are in the home stretch. Each and every one of you came to school and put your heart into learning and that’s what it’s about. Even as you leave here and go off to middle school, you are still here at Hilltop in the memories of a lot of people. It is a great day to celebrate,” said Mowry as she started the awards assembly.
Mowry started with the third-grade awards and each student who earned an award was called to the front of the auditorium and presented with a certificate of recognition by their teacher.
“Third-graders, you should celebrate your accomplishments,“ Mowry said as she addressed the students. “I was wondering if this next class would be able to take the ball and run with it, and today you have showed me you can and you will next year as our fourth-graders.”
Each fourth-grade student who earned an award was then presented with a certificate of recognition by their teacher.
The fourth-grade Spelling Bee participants and place winners were also honored, along with the fourth-grade Math Bee finalists and place winners.
