Applewood swimmers fall to Canfield, Warren


The Applewood swim team dropped its second straight meet, falling 272-220 to Canfield Swim Club June 22.

Allie Klumpp and Ali Azeem each won three events to lead Applewood. Klumpp won the 15 and over butterfly, was a member of the winning medley relay along with DeAscentis, Werth and Kubala; and the freestyle relay along with Stutz, LaRocca and Ricciuti.

Azeem won the 15 and over butterfly, was on the medley relay along with Reardon, Moss and Brooks and the freestyle relay with teammates Hetzel, McEvey and Dohar.

For the 9 to 10-year-old girls division, LaRocca, Ricciardi, Bruno and Reagan won the medley relay and the 11 to 12-year-old boys winning team included Monahan, Price, Ricciardi and Obeng.

In the 8 and under division, Au. Price won the freestyle race and Bruno won for the 9 to 10-year-old girls.

In the backstroke, DeAscentis won the 15 and over girls and Brooks won in the 15 and over boys division. Janal won the breaststroke for the 11 to 12-year-old girls and Ricciardi won the butterfly in the 11 to 12-year-old division.

Glatz, Gordulic, Price and Phillips won the freestyle medley in the 8 and under boys division.

In the 9 to 10-year-old girls division, Reagan, Ricciuti, Stana and Jones won the freestyle relay.

Henderson, Garr, Bosnjak and Linker won the 9 to 10-year old division freestyle relay. In the same race, Francisco, Amendola, Stutz and Kurelko won for the 11 to 12-year-olds.

In the 13 to 14-year-old girls division, Joerndt, Pavlansky, Cervello and Blaine took first in the freestyle medley. In the boys division of the same age group, Mihalopoulos, Zaitzew, Calpin and Ricciardi also took first.

Applewood had opened its summer swim season June 17 with a 245-227 loss to the Warren Olympic Club. Triple winners for Applewood were Jac Cordon, Mia Bruno and Logan Mitchell.
