Ursuline teammates commit to Walsh
YOUNGSTOWN
Ursuline quarterback Paul Kempe and lineman Pete Wearsch will continue their football careers at Walsh University.
Kempe (6-1, 185) was a three-year starter for the Irish, leading them to three straight Division V state championships. He threw for more than 1,400 yards last fall, earning honorable mention all-district.
YSU Scholarship Ring Banquet set Feb. 22

The Youngstown State Penguin Club will have the annual Scholarship Ring Banquet on Feb. 22 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.
Individual tickets are available for $100 while full-table ($800) and half-table ($500) packages are also available.

YSU swimmers fall twice at Green Bay
Green Bay, Wis.
The Youngstown State swimming and diving team lost a double dual meet Saturday, falling to Green Bay 230-70 and to Illinois St. 233-67.
YSU sophomore diver Casey Hill finished first in the 1-meter dive scoring 262.15. Hill also drove for a third-place finish in the 3-meter dive (236.40).
Sam Roberts, sophomore, finished in third place in the 100-yard (1:08.57) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.62).
Bob Mansfield selected to Hall
YOUNGSTOWN
Longtime basketball official Bob Mansfield of Youngstown has been selected for induction into the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame, Northeast district administrator Fred Vicarel announced.
Mansfield will be among 12 enshrined in Columbus on June 11. Edward Dohonas of Cleveland was the only other Northeast district official selected.
Federal League girls basketball pairings
Austintown Fitch will play at North Canton Hoover, and Boardman will visit Lake in the first round of the Federal League girls basketball tournament on Tuesday night. The junior varsity games will begin at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow. Fitch is the No. 7 seed for the tournament, and Boardman is the No. 6 seed.
The second round will be played Feb. 5, with the final round on Feb. 12 at Alliance High School.
Wearsch (6-2, 245) earned third team All-Ohio and first team all-district, helping pave way for running back Akise Teague, who won Mr. Football after rushing for 2,500 yards.
Newton Falls’ Yanovich signs with St. Francis
NEWTON FALLS
Offensive lineman Stephen Yanovich of Newton Falls will sign with St. Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday.
Yanovich, the seventh player from Newton Falls to sign a college scholarship in the last three years, will play center for the Red Flash.
Yanovich (6-foot-2, 285 pounds) was first team All-American Conference as a junior and senior, and first team All-Trumbull County and first team All-Northeast Ohio as a senior. He was a team captain in 2010.

There will be a Meet the Coach Night for the new Struthers High School football coach on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Struthers Middle School Auditorium.

Ganassi sweeps top 2 spots at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
America’s longest endurance race came down to a one-lap sprint.
No surprise, the winner ended up being the guy with more wins in the Grand-Am Series than anybody else.
Three-time and defending series champion Scott Pruett drove the last leg of the Rolex 24 at Daytona and held off Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon during a final restart.
